My 1996 Super Glide makes an odd sound when running over bumps and dips. Sunken manhole covers can really bring it out. It sounds like a barking seal, making an “ARF” sound, sharp and quick. I’ve feel checked the wheel bearing temperature, not even warm. Pulled the fork springs and looked down the tubes. Changed the fork oil. Pulled the swing arm, checked and repacked the bearings, it was due anyway. I’m not find the source. The sound seems to be on the rebound from a heavy bump but I could be wrong about that. Could fork seals make this noise? Maybe the windshield is rubbing on something but I haven't seen evidence yet.
I think I’m going to name the bike Sparky if I don’t find this noise.
Thanks, that's a good idea to check. Think I'll wrap a towel around one and go find some bumps. The left one's pre-load adjuster is gritty feeling so I'll
start there.
It's weird that I can bounce all over it in the garage and not replicate the noise.
