Default weak horn and tach

First post
I've decided to start here since I ride a 93 FLHS.
Recent purchase and all seems to be in fine well maintained working order
EXCEPT - the console lights don't work, the tach gets a signal but only registers about 1,500 rpm tops and the horn sounds like the windshield washer spray on my car.
I took off the dash console being careful not to turn it upside down. Didn't see anything unplugged or cut or anything - except for the green wire coming off the Dash which is labeled as unused in the wiring diagram and the black / red and white wire coming out of the left hand control loom.
before I dig too far I thought I'd pick your brains to see if there might be a fuse or circuit breaker I should look for or if they are in fact all related.
any help is appreciated
if I have posted in the wrong spot please redirect me.
thanks for sharing all the awesome info.

Welcome from Texas.
Your bike has circuit breakers.
Best thing I can tell you is get a volt meter, turn your ignition on, and start tracing the wires back from the indicators to find where you lost power.

Does the green wire have a ring terminal on it? If it is it is the ground that attaches to the triple tree.

I was going to suggest that it sounds like you have a ground problem with your dash. Yeah, get a volt meter. Put it on the hot wire for a bulb and see if you have 12V from there to the battery negative, then to the motor, then to the ground block for the dash (if your bike has one), then to the bulb socket negative itself. Somewhere, you'll find the problem.

You do have the factory shop manual for your bike and not some aftermarket book, right?

Thanks for the suggestion.
I will start the search tonight.
Yes - factory manual 93-94 FLT FXR Manual which covers the 93 FLHS.
Thanks for the help and sorry for the screwed up thread title.

A metal plate held on the fiberglass lid "hooks" by adhesive. It slips under the mounts on the inside (bike side) of lid. They work together under the tension of the handle/ hinge to keep the inside of the lid in place. Keeps the fiberglass from wearing away.

..... and you would win the award for believing his explanation.
Everyone knows those plates are used on those corner dragging extended hard bags so you can corner in showers of sparks.
