Great post...I have open dual pipes on my springer and I felt the performance decrease when I took off the mufflers...but it sounds so much better I deal with it. A tuner, pcIII didn't do much except cause worse gas mileage. I installed baffles but they didn't help much and caused the pipes to turn blue.

I'm a newbie to Hd modding but not to engine modding. On cars with exhaust this is not an issue I've dealt with. I'm going to get the thumbscrews tomorrow morning and give them a try. For $1 or less I have nothing to lose!

Thanks again for posting this.

Hey Joe I must suggest incase you don't know, but power cones are a great way to get back the lost power and torque from adding open pipes, they return the back pressure and sound great!!!
I love my drag pipes and solid brass power cones !!!!!

I've heard of them Glidin Wide...I've been concerned of breaking an exhaust stud, not sure how strong those are after 12 years of heat and some water...did you have any trouble and do you think they made a difference?

My bike 30 years old, no stud issues, spray if rusty... should not be real tight.
I would not tell you to install if I wasn't convinced.

its in the idea of a merge collector as it has a venturi and that in turn collects the exhaust valves stopping sound on the valve seats causing a negative wave behind the step at its end

joe they work...you should run power cones in an open exhaust....it will give you great performance, also as john posted, if your studs are rusted as most in florida are, soak them with the wd-40 overnight and you should have no probs the next day....

Ok, I just installed the thumb screws. I was very surprised about the dyno gains on that video. I'll go for a ride later to cafe 27 and Flossie's and see if I get more power at 2500-3000 as the dyno showed. It's a basically free mod to try.

The power cones look like my next mod. Thanks guys. I have Pb Blaster that has worked wonders on rusted bolts in my past, I'll give that a try.
