Carbon Grit
Just changed oil and filter and noticed something odd in the filter mesh-tiny bits of black grit. There was nothing on the magnet. Am I to assume that these are carbon deposits? I could take the grit and rub it between my fingers, and it it then turned into black sludge. First time looking at oil filter, so I don't know if this is normal. I'm currently using a K&P reusable filter with the stainless steel filter basket. You guys have always helped in the past, and I'm looking for some help now. Thank you!

Sounds like carbon. Do you still have the breathers returning to carb? If so get a kit to relocate to atmosphere. Is it the 98 FXDL? How many miles on the bike and are there any mods?
