If there is a spin-on filter in the return line, you can leave the cartridge filter out of the tank. I ran my shovelhead FLH POS like that. While I don't think two filters would hurt anything, I don't think the cartridge filter in the tank will catch anything the spin-on would miss, short of catastrophic failure that blocked up the spin-on, and by then, catching anything in the tank filter isn't going to matter.
Yeah, just pull the cartridge and forget about it. I don't think they did much anyway. Many people would clean out chunks of metal from the oil tank after grenading a motor, back in the day. All those chunks got past the cartridge filter.
Put 3 or 4 Filters in the return line and see what happens...Hell...Add a couple Coolers too...
You will convince yourself that 1 Filter is Plenty.
These engines don't tolerate restrictions in the return line...

a short lived fad years back had 2 orange fram car oil filters hung on the side of a chopper what ever, and it was short lived as the inside gasket on the oil pump would blow out from the resistance

Had one of those "Fad Boys" back then...went to plenty of other shops looking for the answer he wanted...Finally came back and let us fix it!!!!
After he starved the engine for oil...to seizure!
Hence my question, I was worried about resistance as well!
Will ditch the cartridge and get on with it then!
And.,..It was a good question, as More/Better filtration seems a good thing...on the Surface...Just that these Engines have a Hard enough time getting rid of Oil...We need to help them.
