How hard is it to swap a cam in these? I don't have any experience with that. If it is something I can do without too much risk of destroying the whole motor, I will add that to my list.

It's a fairly simple procedure.
Kinda intimidating the first time but it ain't hard.

Drop those air shocks in the bin. We can advise on replacements that will never bottom out and give a better ride all round. Joking aside your bike will be quicker as a result, because you won't have to keep backing off due to the road surface.
I think shocks definitely need to be replaced again this winter. Are there any somewhat economical options? I have Ohlins on my naked and love them but don't think I wan't to spend that on the glide. I don't need the same type of handling, I just need to stop worrying about dropping parts as I bottom out on terrible Chicago streets.

If you buy anything less for your Glide than Ohlins you'll be disappointed! If you ride mostly solo Howard's #2 shocks will be fine, but if you ride 2-up a lot then his #3 are sublime - which are what Mrs B and I have. It's the only way to travel!

+1 +1 +1 on the Ohlins!
Don't even mess around with anything else, you will not regret it. I went with the #2-#2B Ohlins, we ride 2up and loaded most of the time and they work just fine. Haven't bottomed out once since the install. Messed with stockers and various configurations of the progressives without any satisfaction whatsoever! Howard gives a HDforums discount as well. My final cost was $640, slightly more than progressives. No comparison in performance! Just do it!
