Did you ever fix the forks so that they will compress?

Nah, They seem to be ok, but, I'm looking at changing the rear shocks (too much bounce no matter what air pressure) so, I'm betting I'll need to put some springs in the front.....

Seems like you found something to fix much sooner than later.

This was the original plan:
Andrews EV 27 cam & bearing swap
Lifters (keep stock pushrods)
Shocks
Progressive springs
New lights all round
Brakes (complete job)
Bars, risers
Braided cables
Tires
New seat
Full check of everything and do what's needed within budget.

That's a lot of work!

It didn't take long to figure out that whoever had been working on this thing had NO idea what they were doing. I'll start with the simple stuff for part 1:

Lights proved to be easy. The wiring was for the most part unmolested. I pulled the stock module and put in a Badlands so I could wire the rear turns for run, brake & turn. Picked up new bullet style lights. Front signals are still on the forks, sit tighter now and I doubt I'll remount the windshield any time soon. Rears are relocated to the license plate mount. I'm not overly thrilled with the look of the rears but I'll live with it for now.

Removed the stock headlight bucket and put in a 7" Adjure diamond ice with PIAA bulb. It looks better, really fills up the forks and is much brighter.

Swapped the bars and risers out. Now running poly bushings, 5" pullback risers and Flanders badboy bars. New Avon grips and changed mirrors. Fits me perfectly and no problems with my shoulder at all thus far.

Checked, greased and tightened the neck bearings. The clunking is gone and the front feels solid. No shakes or wobbles.

Braided steel clutch cable & front brake line. Rebuilt the front & rear calipers, flushed everything with new DOT 5 & checked the pads. They still had plenty of life left in them so they're staying for now. Still need the change out the rear brake line but that will wait a bit. The stocker is still in good shape.

There had been a suggestion of going 3" over on the front. That hasn't happened (yet) but it's not out of the question. I'm accumulating parts to change to a dual disc on the front so we'll see.

This is long enough so I'll get to part 2 and where problems started tomorrow when I can post up some pics.

My dream project is to find a sweet EVO FXDWG and paint it like a 1980 model.
