I wonder about this noise reputation too ... is it still current or does it go back to when some, the Cranes, had needle bearings?
Yours is the one at the front with the late FXR-style wheels and Race Brace?
Do you rate the brace for making it a difference, or was it just insurance?
When does power kick in with that recipe?
Yes mine is the charcoal 97 wide glide.
The Race Brace is good insurance that nothing moves and or cracks.
As far as old crane stuff goes I would not know.
My cam kicks in about 3K. BUT, from a dead stop, Turn it up to about 1,200 and let it eat and hold on.
I can't even find where to start a new thread. I was thinking about putting on some later model wheels but my speedo works off of my front wheel. Does anybody make a transmission speedometer sensor set up for the older bikes?
I have a 1991 fxlr, left me sitting on the turnpike with a dead battery. After getting the bike home and testing it I realized that the magnets in the stator were tore to ****. The spacer was welded to the rotor making it impossible to remove but after doing so I noticed the magnets were tore up on one side. I was going to by a new rotor and stator but worried about the shaft. I see deep gouges in the spline. Removing the shaft is a major job, do you think it would have caused any other damage? I really hate to buy a rotor and stator and spend a **** load of time to found something else could be wrong. Any help or suggestions would be great.

a machinist stone works great for removing any burs on the sprocket shaft - change the main seal as debris will have chewed the rubber on it, and the stater and drum with a magnet shield to keep it from doing it again
