Finding Neutral?
Finding neutral on my '90 EG is a hit or miss proposition. Has been since I first got it a few months ago.
Rolling to a stop, it pops into neutral 95% of the time just fine.
Once at a stop, not so much. I got the suggestion here of blipping the throttle and then going to neutral. That works great. Sometimes.
What is happening is that it goes through moods. Moods that last days at a time. When it is in a good mood, the blip the throttle trick works great. When its in a bad mood, the blip the throttle thing doesn't work at all.
I've adjusted the clutch eight ways till Sunday. In and out on the basket. More slack in the cable. Less slack. I've tried three different primary fluids (currently running ATF, which seems to work best, but still...).
I'm getting ready to put it up on a jack for a bit as I do some other winter stuff, and figured this was the time to dig in if there is anything I can do about this. Is there something inside the trans I should be tweaking here?

Been down the same road. I have kinda learned to live with it to say it best.
if I don't get into neutral rolling I use the kill switch and most times can slip into neutral easy enough.
" I've tried three different primary fluids"
I used a syn tranny fluid that seemed to help some.
dang don't remember which one.

My King had the same issue...I changed the primary oil and trans oil to Spectro and adjusted the clutch now it snicks into neutral every time and I don't even have to look at the light to know its in neutral because I can feel it go in.
I'm 2 for 2 with Harleys where it can be tricky to get into neutral.
It almost always works while the bike is still rolling to a stop.
If I can't get it to go at a stop, I just roll the bike forward a bit and try again- it usually goes into N then.

What's funny about this is I have two '90 Evo's. My FXR is the easiest neutral I've ever had. Ever. My EG is the hardest. Ever.
What's weirder is that the trans on the EG shifts much cleaner than the trans on the FXR.

Been there done that with mine as well. Chasing the Dragon so to speak. I don't even bother trying to find neutral when its running anymore. It can get bothersome in heavy stop stop go stop stop go traffic. But with motor not running it pops right in every time. I had a thread going on this a while back as well. Got lots of suggestions on oil and clutch adjustments. Nothing really helped long term.
I usually find if clutch adjustment is not the culprit...the primary chain is too tight.
