Well, I gots me a 96 heritage softail. Thing runs good, real good, with a lovely sound (nicer than them new harleys I reckon). I got it the weekend just gone, rode it 345 kays, and it died in the driveway. Only low idle jet, me thinks, so it's down to Fred at the Harley shop who promptly tells me the plastic lugs holding the backing plate have broken off and pulled the carb from the manifold. Hrmm,I thinks, should've noticed that one myself....anyhoo, it's back on the road with an Arlen Ness big sucker hanging off the side of it now, and it has hi flow pipes already, so it's sounding very nice.
The bike itself cost me nuffin (!): it belonged to my old man, who hadn't touched it in over a year. Sitting under the house for a year, no cleaning, no starting, no riding. Took a bit to get it going, but it went, and rode good till the manifold thing happened.
I'll give it a clean this weekend and post some pics up for all to see.
Holy hell. Here, I paid $11,500 for my '97 Fatboy and you get a '96 Heritage given to you. You better respect your old man, because that's one hell of a hand-me-down.
Yea, I do. I actually drive myself to be like him, and so far all who know us both say we're exactly alike.
Gave it a good clean this weekend, and the extent of it's neglect isn't as bad as I originally thought. I'm waiting for some sunshine and my wife to get the camera working, but pics will go on as soon as I can get em.
