I have put a trouble free 5,000 miles on my 97 RK since the initial gas lines and ignition problems. Thanks again for the excellent advice. Friday my Indy and I are going to tackle a couple of leaks. The dye is in so it shouldn't be a problem finding them. I have been reading that you guys prefer Dino in the Evo. I have synthetic in it now. Maybe that is helping the leaks? I want to go to Dino. 20-50 any special brand? What say you?
I have purchased a cam position sensor, and an engine temp sensor but the bike is running so well I am afraid to install when I have no indication anything is wrong. Did notice a few pops, not backfire on my way home from Daytona. Happens when I roll off the throttle. Have fuel injection. Any thoughts?? I appreciate all the help and advice I have received here. I wish IM was my next door neighbor.
Your bike is almost 20 years old and dates back to before the bike industry started routinely using synthetic oils. The greatest benefit of them is in the auto industry, where they help reduce parasitic losses in plain bearing engines. They are less useful to us, unless recommended, as for my S&S engine. I use proper oil in my Sporty and Buell!

What the hell, we haven't had a good oil argument for a while so here we go!!!
I use Valvoline VR1 50 weight.
As for the EFI thing junk it and put a carb on!!!!
Same here with the EVO. VR1 50. It hated syn...leaked and sound terrible . But damn u live in marathon? Hating u already!! Rent a home there every year. Lol
On the EFI go ahead and change temp sender. Pull Air cleaner and clean air bleeds in front of efi....your Indy will know. I would also change intake rubbers....with the heat u see down there after a year or 2 there gone in my opinion. Blue intake seals if u can find them
I like Valvoline "M" motorcycle rated oil. Important to get the "M" rating, particularly if you use it in your primary as it's made for wet clutch use. I use Harley primary oil and tranny oil, dino style not synthetic on both my Evo and my TC.
Personally I'd leave your bike alone if it's running well, except I'd service the ignition switch, my 03 got gummed up and left me stranded at 10 years old so yours is definitely due if you haven't cleaned it already.
Here are instructions thanks to my friend GTMalone.
Thanks everybody who responded to my oil question. I know it gets boring and redundant with oil talk. This is my first Evo and I love it. I wanted to make sure I got the right stuff when switching from synthetic to Dino. I will follow your advice.
