Brake Master Cylinder compatibility?

Hi,

I've got a 1994 road king... I'm curious if the newer model master cylinders off other touring bikes are backwards compatible to run the brake light switches on pre-1996 bikes with the square switches.

It seems like there are more of the newer models available used, so I'm wondering if you have to upgrade the switch pods to use them or not.

A switch is a switch! That shouldn't cause any problems, however the way the newer master cylinders are attached to the bike may.

That is what I am curious about, whether or not the location of the tab on the master cylinder push rod changed along the way or not.

Can't speak for the 94 RK but a Twinkee master cylinder went right on a 97 RK with no mods needed.

I would probably stay away from one that came from a bike with ABS because I don't know if the bikes with abs have a master cylinder that is made different or not.

Ya, most RK parts fit up to 2007 that makes it easier to get parts for the 97-98 Evos. That is why it's unsure of the 94 swap, pictures are golden when sizing up swaps.

ZachE, try and find years of fit for the RK and if the 94 is compatable with 97-98 then it is a go, I'll try to find some specs also

Did some homework, same brake switch for a RK fits 1994 thru 2015, answers the activation. Part numbers are different for master cylinders.

One of the reasons the part number changed at some point is the need to print DOT 4 on the lids as opposed to DOT 5. I think that was about 2007? I checked numbers for rebuild kits at one time, and they were the same straight through that change.
