Default How Often.........

Do you guys re-pack your wheel bearing and change your fork oil? I have not done either in 13K miles and as far as I know, it hasnt been done on my bike in 10 years.

I always repack my bearings annually. Regardless of miles. You need to know the condition of them not just assume they're ok. Last thing i want is a siezed bearing that could lead to e wreck.......

Fork oil at 20k or 4 seasons. Moisture does get in them.

I confess that I have never changed the fork oil on my 1989 EG. Looks like a pain in the *** to do. Anyone have a simpler solution for this maintenance procedure.

I do re-pack the wheel bearings 10-15K miles.

Yes, the fork oil does look like a PITA. I hate wrestling the wheel wheel off too. Guess I need to hunker down and do both though.

Let me know how it goes, cause we have the same bike. I read long ago about using a method to pump in the oil through the drain hole. Good luck.

It's about a 15 minute job, not counting drain time.

-remove the shrader valve on the front air suspension
-remove drain plugs on lowers
-get a mighty vac kit, find the tapered fitting and a piece of hose from the kit,
-put the drain plug back in the fork your not filling
-insert the tapered fitting into the fork drain hole your filling, and the hose end into the container with the measured amount of oil your going to use
-connect the mighty vac to the shrader valve and pump to draw the oil in
-keep pumping while you remove tapered fitting and install drain plug
-remove the empty fork drain plug and repeat the fill procedure.
-install shrader valve and add air.

notes - with drain plugs out, get on the bike, hold the front brake and push and pull the front up and down to pump oil out the damper, can also apply some air pressure to the shrader to blow the oil out, or even let it drain overnight.

I like to catch the oil drained to measure how much came out, gives you and idea if your losing any oil, and how much was in there to start.

In my '90, I use 11oz of Belray 15w and 12 psi air, works well.

That will be a 2-person job for me since my schrader valve has been relocated to my left side cover when the apes were installed.
