Texas on my old evo I think I had something around 165ish. I'm thinking I better recheck.

Just went out and rechecked and its the same as before. I tested the compression tester on my tc and its fine, checked it in the fall and it was 185 and still the same.
Any suggestions?

How do the plugs look?

Popping on deceleration can be 1) exhaust leak 2) too rich fuel mixture.

He used new gaskets putting on the exhaust correct? And there's no cracks in exhaust manifold.

Nothing wrong with checking the cheap stuff first. Good luck.
WRONG. Please don't give advise when you don't know what you're talking about.....

Yeah, 90 is the point below which you should rebuild, according to the Moco. A fresh motor is much higher. I can't help but think a motor with 90psi would seem pretty weak.

A stock Evo from the factory comes in at 8.7:1 static and with the N grind cam intake closing of 30* you will be left with a dynamic comp of 8.3:1 and a ccp of 165 psi.

135 psi is time to refresh...

This motor doesn't have all that many miles on it since it had the Harley reman done on it. Basicly I bought it off the guy and put new tires and new exhaust and put it in the shed for two years and hand it over to my son when he graduated from hvac.
The guy was running wide open drag pipes on it when I brought it home, is it possible the drag pipes did in the top end?

I'm going to try another compression test today with a few squirts of oil down the cylinder, maybe its just rings, I hope.
