WRONG. Please don't give advise when you don't know what you're talking about.....
Get over yourself...
All you had to say was:
"You got it backwards daven 9113, it is usually a lean mixture, not rich, that causes popping in the exhaust on deceleration".
People get stuff wrong all the time, the points daven9113 made were valid.
OP: my thoughts on your hard starting are: crap in the carburetor, and the tune of the carb to work correctly with the exhaust pipes you have. The stock ignition is fine, as long as it is working properly.

Thanks Dan , appreciated. Starts mucho better now since I cleaned it all out and reset the screws , just needs some nicer than snow weather to do some fine tuning. My newest concern now is this low but even ccp reading.
Just had a thought, when doing the compression test are you guys doing the test with motor warm or cold?
I always test ccp on a slightly warm motor. Spins better. They say tho have a Barry charger connected as well to really get it spinning over nicely.
As for Starting. I also am ruining an S$S and what works best for me is no enricher and 2 full shots on the throttle. Your accelerator pump should be at 2 3/4 turns out from lightly seated position, for a good positive shot of fuel. If your not getting that at that adjustment then it's time for a new diaphragm.
When warm starting, just a small shot on the throttle and it should fire right up...

I see guys giving dumbass advise and information on here all the time. Get over yourself, you ain't the all knowing yankee.
If when starting the bike stone cold with the carb adjustments set for basic bench setup I try to start the bike with choke full on and it won't start, if I give less and less choke it will finally start and after adjusting choke a bit bike will rev up ok . Is this an indication that the 29.5 intermediate jet is too big and I should get a 28?
