Default Engine light on intermittantly

The last two days I have seen the red engine light come on intermittantly for couple of miles and then stay off the remainder of my comute.
Nothing in the service manual addresses this.
Only recent changes, added oil cooler.

Any ideas?

If you mean the red warning light, that is oil pressure. Check oil level, especially as your cooler increases your total oil capacity. Also what brand and grade of oil do you have in it? The fact that the light goes out for most of the time is good, but it would be better if, once you are moving, it went out and stayed out!

I am using HD 20-50 wt.
The fact that the red engine symbol only comes on now and after
I added a Jagg oil cooler (with thermostat) causes some concern.
I haven't read any codes (don'the have the diagnostic tools).
I am wondering if maybe the oil cooler robs the engine of oil when running and then drains back to resevoir, showing "full" when shut off?

Mine doesn't but then again I don't have a thermostat.
It might be worth a call to Jagg to see what one of their techs says.

You do have an EFI bike right?

I would put an oil pressure gauge unit to see if it is dropping below 5 lbs. Doesn't the red engine light only one on when you have oil pressure issues? I would expect a yellow light to come on if there was a code issue . Then again, I don't have an EFI bike.

EFI bikes have 2 engine lights???

OP
If it's the oil light I recommend putting in straight 50 and see if that solves your problems.

I don't know . That's what I was asking . Engine oil level/pressure and engine management should be 2 separate lights but I don't know how harley does theirs.

Unless your bike is EFI it won't have any codes. As for the oil cooler, that shouldn't affect the engine or oil level. It will have filled up with oil a short while after you installed it, and once the system is topped up all should be well! I suppose it is possible that if the cooler is installed high on the frame and if you have the oil tank under the trans, that oil may drain back while stationary. I'd have thought the Jagg instructions would cover that, if it is likely to be a problem. Do they have a trouble-shooting section on their website?
