Thanks guys none of those noises lol. More just ticking noises and one which can only be described as something metal vibrating on something else.
Ticking is valve train noise most likely. However: Harley's vibrate, and anything that isn't secure is going to work itself loose, or break whatever is holding it. Exhaust shields are notorious for causing 'that noise'. Best to take a look see at all the things hanging on the bike.

Probably need a smaller o-ring (inside diameter). And put some liquid teflon thread sealer on the bolt.
I always wear earplugs when I ride. Can't stand riding without them.
As a pleasant side effect, the cut out all the high frequency sounds, and all you hear is the smooth, mellow rumble.
Same here. At first it was the wind noise that drove me to plugs. When I got a windshield it was better but I still wear the plugs...watched my Dad's hearing take a dump over the years. Forget that.
Here on the first day of school you put your kids on the bus then drive like a maniac to get to school before them so you can watch them get off the bus. Whatever. Anyhow, after I saw the monkeys navigate the 25 feet of sidewalk into the school I hopped back on the King and flashed her up. Realized that I hadn't put my plugs back in.
Made for a very enjoyable peel out of the parking lot (what can I say, I'm weak. I like it when little kids think I'm badass!) and short cruise to the office. Straight pipes through town are quite satisfying.

Touring models 93 and up use an oil pan on the bottom of the transmission case. I'm only familiar with them, as I own a 93 FLHS and it has the oil pan. He has a 97 Dyna Wide Glide.

Dyna's have the same setup also, pan is aluminum. Mine had an oversize plug when I bought it, I just use fibre washer and teflon pipe dope on mine no problem yet.

Awesome fibre or copper washer should be good then. Thanks mate.
To those who said they don't know of oil pan it's the drain Bing for the engine sump. Where your oil sits at rest
Regarding the noise. If you're tuned into it you'll learn its sounds after a few rides and you'll know instantly when something is wrong. YouTube videos will help you sometimes it's not always easy to hear. I had a ringing noise I couldn't pinpoint with a stethoscope even until someone on here after listening to it said crossover exhaust gasket. I put the stethoscope there and sure enough. I never would have found it sounded like it was coming from another part of the engine. Another video tman picked up on my cam whine, tore it down over the winter and I had a cam that was severely worn, lobes worn well past where they should. Bottom line listen and when in doubt post a vide. You do have iPhones over there right?
