Been real proud of my EVO since getting a vibration fixed, then a blown head gasket. It runs very well and quite(least for an EVO) I have had occasion to brag and get some complements the last 2-3 years.
Went on a dinner ride with some friends to small town yesterday bout 80 mi away.
Went to pull off the HWY and you'd thought a rattle can of paint suddenly attached itself to the motor. 3rd gear at 25000rpm. shifted to 2nd and pretty much the same noise. Got to restaurant, idling in parking lots the noise was hardly noticeable. Kinda ck'd out. Everyone was hungry including me.
Ok it didn't sound to bad leaving but getting back to my town it sounded off big time again. It was late and reck'd some things. It sure sounded to be in the bottom end or cam chest or maybe compensator
Went in the house made a stiff drink and called a buddy. He said he would bring a stethoscope by this morning and we would ck it out.
I had given it a short run down the road and it was sounding off , pulled back to the house as he was pulling up. Told him you can hear it real good at 2k in 2nd and 3d gear. I know thats lugging it a bit but it sounded the worst then. Told him I guess I need an opinion as to which side to tear down first.
His response was " Ok but less replace to 2 front motor mount bolts that are missing first" Ahh Crap
I felt like a dunce cause I know better than to skip the basic stuff But I did. At the same time I felt quite happy.
Hey WP, where will you be coming from in West Texas? Glad your fix was easy!Thats the way I felt last week when i found my primary chain adjuster loose...whew......
