Default Turn Signal Control Module

Any recommendations for a replacement turn signal control module for a 1992 FLSTC?

From the research I have done so far, the OEM module is no longer made. Some have criticized after-market modules as poor quality. There are upgraded modules available. A bewildering array of choices for an ignorant newbie like me.

I do not mind spending a little extra for extra quality. But I do not want to waste money on fancy features.

Easy job for a newbie to tackle?

From what I can see you are looking for HD part #68537-89G

I checked inventory at New Castle HD and it shows 2 in stock.

A Google search of the part number returns more results.

I hope this helps.

Alternatively Badlands make a whole range of modules, including a direct replacment, plus an LED friendly version IIRC. I have had one of their LED flasher modules for ever.

What is the present module doing? (or not doing?) The module is dependent on the speedometer reed switch to work...so it may not even be the problem.
The whole system is obsolete, had problems and recalls since it was new, and it's days are numbered till there are no more parts on the shelves to fix it...I would just buy the badlands module and be done with it.

The turn signal lights are constantly on. Pressing the turn signal switches does nothing.

I am leaning towards this.

What it should enable you to do is to press either one switch or the other, to get them to flash. If you press them both at the same time then all four should flash, as hazard flashers.

I've owned my '90 bike from new and soon disconnected the speedo. The unit still works fine, the only thing it doesn't do is switch off when you want the darned flasher to stay on. So that is not something to be distracted by.

If you are getting nothing out of yours at present, then don't hesitate to replace it. However before you do, have your flashers worked at any time while you have owned your bike? I'm trying to think if there could be a fault that would give you your symptoms, other than a defective module.

I have only had the bike for two weeks. The turn signals did not work when I got it. I do not know when the last time they worked. I had a mechanic check it over last week. He thought the turn signal module needed to be replaced. But I do not know how closely he looked at it. And I know electrical issues can be difficult to diagnose.

Electrical problems are not difficult to diagnose, for those with the right skills! You have an independent opinion and diagnosis, which is very valuable, so I suggest you go with that and fit a replacement module.

That makes sense. Now, which one? Leaning towards one of the Badlands. Seems like those are more reliable.
