I was just wondering if anyone knows the specs for an oil sending unit on a 1986 classic. Been having some problems with some aftermarket parts and want to make sure I get the correct one. Also want to thank everyone that gave me advice on my electrical issue before. I have a draw somewhere now that I have it up and running good. Just going over all the wiring now to find the problem
I seem to recall a recent thread on this. I think the original part is available from HD. Why not try there first? And what's wrong with the one you have? Keep in mind that it is a 2 in one unit, both pressure sender and idiot light.
Does sound like the idiot light half of the sender is not working. You might try taking it apart and cleaning it. Those things are just simple mechanical devices. The can is usually crimped on. Otherwise, the idiot light should come on with very low pressure, like 3 PSI, if I recall. What pressure is the gauge showing when it is warmed up and when cold?
HD didn't make the sender. It's an off the shelf item. You just have to find it. If HD doesn't stock it anymore, I would just go with the aftermarket ones. Also, I seem to recall seeing something that would work at Summit.
