1990 EVO Engine problem.
Gotta love the EPA!!!!
Think about running down the road.
Is it easier to breath in clear air or a dense fog???
Engines gotta breath!!!!
Check out "Catch cans" for autos.
Keeps the extra build up out of the throttle body area and keeps the upper intake manifold a lot nicer on certain cars. My Charger being one of them.
I pour out about 2 oz per oil change in my car.
Griz

Shouldn't be much, oil in the "mist" anyway..
If we were looking for every last horesepower, we would understand that Harleys bottom ends don't breath very well...an evacuation pump is best...otherwise...Sucking out the bit of pressure in the bottom end can't hurt...assuming a tight engine with little blowby..old high mileage engine?? bound to be too much oil to be sent to the combustion chamber.
I have both ways...Hell...all 3 ways as my dragbike earned an evacuation pump...

This isn't about the breather setup. OP's carb is dumping gas into the motor. Needs a rebuild. I'd guess that the needle valve has hardened with age.
Sumping is Sumping...tho in this case it sumped Fuel...that means it ran down past the rings....Not Good...but might be OK.
The term Sumping stems from something [generally oil] being in the normally Dry [empty] Sump of the engine.
ie...In theory, all of the engine oil [and gas too] stays in the appropriate Tank.
