1985 FXST Open Belt Primary ?
Ok, Got my bike all back together and running fairly decent and have been pondering putting an open belt primary on it and doing away with the electric starter. I want to keep the look like on the old Shovels though and not go with the big fancy aluminum covers and such. I cant find or don't know how to search for the cover that goes on the motor that covers part of the stator. I am just thinking about going with the 2" belt. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have that set up on my 84 Softail except I opted for the 3 inch belt. This was back in the early 90's before any of the open primary manufacturers were offering anything for the new diaphragm clutch baskets. I had to adapt a Shovelhead set up to make it work.
I have one of those covers on the shelf. I will look to see if there are any makers marks on it. I bought it over 20 years ago so please forgive me for not remembering from whom it was purchased.
