Hey folks,
It's been awhile since I've been on here but I have a emergency/question to ask. FYI: I have a 1993 HD Dyna Wide Glide FXDWG Evo engine.Well the other day I noticed I was getting a horrible rattling noise from my primary. I feared the worse but after looking closely and inspecting it I noticed that it was rattling due to two bolts coming off. The two bolts located towards the front of the primary...the two bolts that actually bolts the primary to the engine block. It's for the Inner side of the primary but is still visible on the outside, after all it's bolting the inner primary to the engine. My question is pretty basic. What size are those two bolts? I need to get them asap as there is a Hardware store right down the road but they close early today. I have a manual but it doesn't specify bolt size. Please help...I wanted to get this dealt with asap. Thank you
That may be true and I have thought of that. I do plan on taking off the primary cover as I needed to replace the gasket anyways(in fact this was planned before I noticed the missing bolts)...but when I crank up the bike I can see it rattling against the engine...it's really not like a obnoxious rattling like a loose bolt inside the case...but still you're right it could be some loose bolts in there so I plan on check that out. Atleast those bolts should be trapped inside the casing. However those two bolts on the front outside have definitely been donated to the highway somewhere.
I'll tell you one thing if the two front primary to case bolts are lose then the 2 inner ones probably are as well and if they back out and catch the primary chain your gonna be part of the road........
Yeah I definitely plan on taking it off and making sure none inside came loose but if memory serves me correct, when I put my case back on after replacing a broken belt I made sure to locktite and really tighten all of the inside bolts, plus the majority of them all had the self-locking tabs on them. The only two bolts I know for a fact fell out were the two that are exposed to the outside and I do believe it's my fault for forgetting to put locktite on them. Anyways, can anybody tell me the size of these bolts??? That's my main question right now
Do not ride the bike until the problem is fixed. If it hasn't happened already you will break the o-ring flange (seal lip) off of the left crankcase. If you ride an Evo Dyna hard it makes for an unhappy marriage between the engine & the inner primary. Adding a Carlini Torque Arm will help keep it together.
