Default Speedometer high reading intermittent

My speedo has gone wonky about 6 times, it climbs about 120mph or higher if let it. Usely I come to almost stop and it goes back to normal. Before thought it to be speedometer but last time it howled so was so wondering if it might be cable or worm gear at wheel. Posted in this section as most the twin cams are electric.

Sounds like a good idea, this started about the same time radio stopped. I then found ground wires that where unhooked on the tree after tracing schematic, & hooked them back up.

'Howling' sounds like it's mechanical.

So which of the three do you think it is. I don't see alot of speedometer on eBay like mine so would have to get new if that's what it is.

Well that's nice but why post in the EVO section just because twinkies are electric????

You can oil your speedo cable which will also oil your speedo drive gear but if your speedo his howling then about all you can do is replace it.
Have you checked your local dealer for part availability?

Intermittent problems are the hardest to find.
