If that's the stock ignition and coil in that 98 then i would think you need a dual fire coil not a single and i think the guys are right about the pickup....
Did you ohm out the primary and secondary sides of the coil and if so, what did you get?

Picking up bike today from Indy,quote! I'm leaning towards the pickup.he ordered pickup and should be put in.hope he's rite.I tested ,had 12v to coil.I couldn't really pull tank to test both field s,go figure he came with trailer to pickup bike and it started rite up,drove to his shop and left it idling,I don't know if it stalled or what led to pickup replaced. Will update.

Picked up bike today!running fine so far,Indy replaced coil and pickup,he says coil was the original (95) and intermittent spark,glad to have it back.thanks all for ur input! Slip says dual fire coil.

I'm having a similar problem , had a few misfires , I got on the throttle and it revved right up. few more misses after a while, then just quit. sat around a half hour, started right up and rode home. I'm going to replace coil and pickup. 98 rk efi, stock. should I go with stock parts or aftermarket? thanks, Ed

Got that prob on my 1988 FLHTC Intermitten spark.Replaced coil (dual spark) Starts an runs fine when it wants to.But it will let ya down.Replaced cam sensor with used one.Dont know if that is good or not.Looks like poo.When it quits running it has No spark. Runs great when running.Has 60000 mi on it.Bike ran 150 mi the other day then a mi from home it quit.Pushed home hr later fired back up ran a few min quit again.Repeat Cked kill switch ,ck.for short,ck batt.Replace 30 amp breaker,relay next to it. ??

When replacing the pick-up, any trouble in removing and replacing wire pins in the connector plug that connects to the ignition module. Do you need a special tool to insert pins into that rubber connector?
