Default Upgrading calipers Advice & Help please

Hey guys , I am going to upgrade the calipers on 96 fatboy from the current single cylinder on the left side to a double cylinder on the left side..I have done research and here is my options

1) adapter with newer Harley calipers
2) adapter with older brembo calipers

so here is my questions,

With either option will I need to change my MC or cables or any other parts aside from the caliper an adapter bracket

does one option have advantages over the other?

thank you

Are you sure those are your only two options? Asking as I have a 97 WG and I went with 4-piston PM Machine F and R.

While you won't have to change the master cylinder you will probably need a new brake line.

Just went through all this with my bobber build...PIA. U def will need a new master cylinder if u upgrade to a 4
or 6 piston caliper. The stock m/c will not push enough fluid to move all the pistons. It will work but the lever will not gain pressure till halfway through the pull. It was hitting my knuckles before I got stopping power. U will need a 5/8 mc. I had a 9/16 and had to change the caliper to a 2 piston and now it works properly.

A friend of mine just put 4 pot PM calipers on his '97 FLSTC and he says it works fine with the stock MC.

just my experience....and I did a boatload of research trying to figure out what was wrong....American classic motors argued with me also that it would work as I got the 9/16 caliper from them....I tried bleeding it every which way in the world...rebuilt the caliper, and nothing worked....found a 2 piston caliper which would fit the bracket and viola it worked...immediate pressure on the lever...

I mean u can try it first and see what happens...wont cost anything to do that.

That was my experience when I installed the Wilwoods. Stock MC continues to work fine. As 800screws said, it can't hurt to try.

Initially, I ran the stock hoses. That was a bit of a hack since the inlet position on the Wilwoods was such that the stock, 90 degree banjo fittings were not ideal. I switched over to 35 degree banjos when I installed new lines in the course of my handlebar upgrade.

That's because you already have the larger MC on your bike.
