Tranny Dipstick Broken Off
After using every profanity known to man in a couple of languages, I calm down and attempt to look down the fill hole with a small flashlight, but I can't really see ****. I thinking...please God, let the frigging dipstick be leaning against the side cover, and in one piece. It may be, but I doubt it. I tried a couple of different magnets fishing down the hole, but to no avail.
Just for background info, I have to add that I rode for about 100 miles on Sunday, and didn't hear any strange noises. The tranny has been working perfectly.
Before I go tearing everything apart, has anyone else had this happen on a Baker tranny? Any suggestions? I thought I would start with popping off the side cover, and having a look. That should only cost me about 5 minutes and a new gasket.
The last thing I want to do is trash a $2500 Baker tranny, all because of a stupid dipstick.
I think it is a (don't want to say common) known problem with the dipstick. I have read that some guys just go ahead and cut the dipstick off the plug to prevent the problem.
I hope you find it without much hassle. YD
I think you're on the right track with the idea of pulling the side cover. With some luck, it will be sitting there waiting for you.
All the serous business in the trans is on the other side of the of cartridge end plate anyway. I expect you are fine.
