Is there a Mfg: thats has oversized pushrod tubes for the evo? every now and then I keep getting a ticking that i thought was maybe a lifter or in the rocker boxs, It would come and go. I found it, the front exhaust PR tube. Amazing that a pushrod rub can sound like your motors ready to beat itself to death.
you take it back off and the inside alloy tube that supports the top o ring the bottom of it you cut off 1/8 of an inch or just the shiny spot the the pushrod is hitting it
I had to shorten the inner pushrod tubes about 1/16 inch when I put in Crane adjustable pushrods. The larger diameter of the threaded sleeve was hitting on the upper tube. the good thing is it didn't do it for long as they quickly "mashed" their own clearance in the upper tubes.
I assume that you are using adjustable pushrods if you are having this issue. Also, check to be sure your pushrods are straight. More often than not, they're not brazed together perfectly straight and they can "wobble" and rub intermittently on the pushrod tubes. This usually shows up most readily in the front exhaust position, since that pushrod runs at the greatest angle relative to the lifters. Check your pushrods for straightness. I do this by rolling them on two straightedges. Be sure that the rod with the least "wobble" is installed in the front exhaust position.
I took a little better than 1/8 off it today, I started it and the ticking was gone. We will see how it is when its fully warmed up later in the week, also the rods i have in it now do not have a brazed or welded on bottom, so there is no lip to hit the tube. Primo taper lites
