Very close to finishing the 61 pan, started to put the pushrods in the motor, the two exhaust, a bit tight, but able to get in, the two exhaust, no way. And yes, everything is bottomed out, and adjusted all the way down. I talked to a few bike shops, and they said it is not the first time this has happened , as they have seen this before. These are new S & S pushrods for a 61 panhead,
Suggested fixes are to cut the rods and reinsert the tips, also, to try to force the valve springs up.
The motor is in place, so not really practical to remove the covers and rocker blocks, that would bea nightmare now.
Ok, I await some old timers that have seen this before, and have the simple solution to this problem.
One tip is 1/8 - 3/16 to long.
I am also considering adjustabel pushrods, so I would have to sets of adjustments,
I have solid lifters with the adjustment in the tappet.
just loosen the head bolts so the head/s will lift just enough to get the pushrods into position, then retorque the heads. don't forget the longest pushrod goes to the front exhaust.
If the machine shop that did the valve work cut the valve seats too deep you will have some problems getting the pushrods in, also if this is the case, the rocker to valve stemgeometry will be off, this will cause some rapid wear to the valve guides, and in some cases (if the stem highth is not = I have even seen some funny running issues.)
yeah, you can force the pushrods in, but rights right, and wrongs wrong.
This can be quite normal I use a set of needle nose pliers put the pushrod in the head the cup part of the rocker put the bottom of the pushrod into the pliers say one inch up put the end of the pliers on the solid lifter cup using the pliers as a lever lift up this will open the valve in the head then you can usually slide the pushrod down the pliers into the lifter cup Might take some practice Go for it!!
Guess the question is if you ordered the correct pushrods. Belive the crrect one would be the 93-5029 ones. And yes, the pushrods should be different length w/ the longest going to the front pushrod

The 93-5029 is for the EL model(61 CI) not the 61 year
The 93-5059 is for the FL model(74 CI)
