Default Spring plate

In the center of the clutch plate sandwich is a "spring plate" which appears to me to be intended to reduce driveline shock. Many aftermarket clutch products eliminate this piece which can be a failure point of its own. My question to the forum is: Has anyone eliminated this part and had issues?
Thanks for your responses.

I eliminated the spring plate on my '97 FLHT when it came apart in the basket (the brass rivets come out of them eventually) . I replaced the clutch with the Screamin' Eagle clutch from Harley, it the same clutch pack that the police biked get and are on the 110 ci bikes. Lots of folks here will steer you to a Barnett kit, They also make some great stuff.

The only difference I notice with out the spring plate and hte heave duty clutch is a harder pull on the lever.
