Default power cones

I am in the process of doing a top end job on my 91 FLHTC and when I put it back together I want to drop a pair of power cones in the exhaust pipes. As I am looking at them I got to wondering what would be the best order of assembly.
(1) gasket-cone-pipe
OR
(2) cone-gasket-pipe
I am leaning towards (2) because I am thinking that it would put the cone flat against the head and reduce the possibility of leaks that might occur with (1) between the cone and pipe due to differences in profile.
Any thoughts?

My thought would be to get your money back, or Their good conversation pieces for the coffee table.

I never used them. I am running big city thunder baffles between my header pipe and mufflers. Sounds great and helped low end torque a lot.

I am a believer in the power cones, I installed stainless mesh gaskets in the heads and Install the cone in the pipe. The cone will seat into the gasket as you evenly tighten the nuts and probably should line up the rear where it needs to be before tightening the nuts at the heads. The cone seals nicely in the pipe.

And they do restore torque in open drags, you'll get more negative comments about them on the forum than in favor, use them, compare them, make your own judgment as I have. Adjust your carb to suit you.

If you google "Harley power cone dyno test" you will see that virtually anybody who has ever dynoed them says they don't work.

"Lolipops" do work...and are easier to install.

What exhaust system are you going to use? A well designed system doesn't need add-ons like lollipops or cones!

Glidein wide is correct. Gasket first. But it depends on what pipes you're running if the cones will do anything...they're really only for straight pipes. I don't know if they work, but they're a pretty cheap investment...

I watched a tv programme recently in which a motorcycling journalist reviewed Steve McQueen's riding life. I'm sure his Triumph Metisse had lollipops, although I couldn't get a clear view of them! Those Metisse are still being made, if anyone is interested.....
