How the hell does this happen? I was having problems with the left directional working intermittently. Safe to say I need a new one.. Do i have gremlins or mice? Anyone have one they want to part with?

Wow, that's pretty messed up... No i don't have one. Did you try to clean out all the debris and check the circuit board? Maybe it can be repaired.

It would sure be worth a shot. Sometimes crud or corrosion can form what amounts to jumpers on a pcb and cause shorts. Merely cleaning a pcb with denatured alcohol can be effective. Repairing damaged traces and pads is also possible, but not easy.

Nothing to lose, anyway

I would run jumpers instead of trying to repair traces and pads.

Well that rubber backing looks like it was liquid poured originally. It don't want to peal off.
Someone has been at the TSM in the past because on each end someone wrote 98RK on it.
so it looks like I'll just go get a new one.

Consider a used unit?
