Dry fit those to the bike before you paint, had some of the aftermarket tanks be off enough I've had to tweak the mounting tabs.

Little hard to comprehend what you mean here. Are you saying that every aftermarket tank you ever bought never had a tank liner and that you never had any issues?

Well, I applied the Red Kote - seems like it went ok, other than I could not get the excess completely drained out, so there was probably more in it than needed. I just kept turning it every 20 minutes to get the puddles to spread out. Hopefully I wont have any issues with that little area where the stuff was a little too tacky to lay flat.

I'm a little skeptical but am gonna have to do something with my 98 tanks. Do i have to remove all of the old liner or just the loose **** and then re-coat. Can you keep the updates coming. THANX...

Sure, I'll let you know how it goes in the next couple weeks. I am going to let it cure for several days, then I am going to fill it with some good ol' Iowa ethanolled gas (think its a 10% blend) and let it sit for a week or 2, then drain and make sure what comes out doesn't look like red kool aid. If it passes that test, I'll keep going.

As for getting all the old liner out, I would probably try the POR-15 kit that comes with the stripper.

If it's peeling inside, as much as possible should be removed before recoating. Acetone should be used to rinse out. After I coated mine and drained as much as possible, I used a piece of heavy foam in the gas fill hole with a small hole in the center to fit my air nozzle. Aim the small gas line elbow on bottom of tank to be the lowest point so the remaining coating flows to it . Squeeze the trigger a little, it only takes about 1 psi to help it along, you don't want the liner to clog up your fuel cross over tubes. It takes a little thinking and patients but I didn't want puddles and they don't recommend leaving puddles in the tank to dry.
I used northern liner and still okay but of course it hasn't been that long either, this liner is blue.

This is exactly why I don't use the ****. The P.O. of my FXR coated the tank with some yellow **** and I found peeling strips of it floating around in my fuel. I did the BB's and fuel shake and got a lot of it out.

Just never seen a need for it.

HD still isn't coating their tanks, are they? I just painted a 2016 Fat Bob and those tanks weren't coated.

Either way, whatever works for you guys...
