Default Loose Head Bolt

Found loose inner head bolt on rear cyl. today, while doing something else.
Completely loose , flopping around loose.

So pulled rocker box, and will retighten and check the others.

I was thinking locktite, any opinions on that?

Thanks

Needs to come down, be checked for warping, the studs at the case for pulling and new gaskets as you will be having leaks on that cylinder sooner or later . Do not use loctite on head bolts.

There are presently no leaks, I have no idea why there aren't, but there are none.

Cases already have inserts due to studs pulling on previous owner.

What year and how many miles. Was any head work or motor work done recently?

I wouldn't lock tight that.... If anything pull the cap Screw (Internal threaded screw) put a little oil on the stud and re torque. You should check all 4 not just the one that loosened up.. It's not that common of an issue. Lets hope your stud didn't pull creating the looseness.. When re-torqueing the head you will find out... Torque in sequence, to 42 ft lb.... The sequence is listed in the manual

never heard of that unless the stud was pulled. maybe the other owners forgot to torque that one down when he put it togther. i would think that head gasket is going to be short lived. but if it were me, i would see if it torques down and if it does torque them all and ride. makes w me wonder about the front head.

I'd be suspicious of that insert.

97 no motor work done in past couple of years.
Prior to that, the aforementioned pulled studs were fixed, guessing maybe 8-9 k miles back.
Total mileage guesstimate 120k.

What's the compression like? I cannot imagine it holding much pressure with everyone you described.

Lots of miles there... Before you go any further I would really concentrate on the studs... Especially since this your last post (The aforementioned pulled studs were fixed) To me that would warrant a tear down to at least inspect... Pull the heads and the jug. You don't have to take the pistons out just slide the jug up enough to get the wrist pin out. To do anything else might be good thrown after bad.......
