Ask them to see the service records and paperwork. They've had it a long time what are they into it for? They probably aren't even making much at this point selling it at current book. That's not your problem though they bought a sled and can't move it. Find something else. Is it a bitch to import one from the states? I'm sure there's plenty of evos you could get shipped in.

And my father is the one who dissuaded me from buying the '95 Dyna.
He was a pilot for Air Canada and knows nothing about EVO's
LOL
Then I'm not sure why you would take his advise on this subject.

As for the '08 you have to remember that the longer the dealership keeps it the more it costs them.
After 2 or 3 years it has cost them quite a bit.

As for a warranty from Harley be prepared for "They all do that".
God I got so tired of that bullshit answer from the local dealer I quit trying to get anything fixed there.

Once again you would be happier with the EVO but don't pay book value for that '08 as they are obviously are having a problem moving it.
That puts you in a position of power negotiation wise.

They're asking $13,999 Canadian which is $10,436 US with 7,000 kilometers.

I do look at Chopper Exchange from time to time and sometimes Ebay for 90s Dynas. I've seen some nice ones on Chopper Exchange. Which one is better to deal with? It would cost a lot to import into Canada with our low dollar, shipping, customs. But you don't see the gems here like the USA?

If I did buy the 2008 and something awful happened and the engine blew how much would that cost? I'm worried about that because of what I've read about Twin Cams running hot and blowing engines and stuff I read from James Russell publishing if there is any truth to it though? But I never drive my motorcycles hard, I have the maintenance done, and I keep them stock except for maybe a slip on.

I appreciate your favorable comments about the Evo. If I'm patient and wait, I could find an excellent 90s Dyna for about $7,300 Canadian. I could save $6,800 dollars buying the EVO.

The main problem with the pastry bikes (Twin Cams orTC or twinkies) is the damn cam chain followers.
When they went they took the whole engine with them.
I'm not sure but I think they solved that problem by '08 but you'd have to ask someone more familiar with them to be sure.

Whatever you decide stay away from that '08 at the dealership!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure what $7.3k CD translates to in USD but if it's about $5k then you are in the right range.
Hell you can get them as low at $3k or $3.5k sometimes!!!!
Time of year helps/hurts the buyer.

FWIW other known problems with pastry bikes is wheel bearings and the compensator nut coming loose.
I have known people who lost their whole wheel because of a wheel bearing going bad.
I have several friends who's compensator nut is constantly coming loose.
I know of one person who has lost his engine twice because of those chain followers.

Nope I don't want a pastry bike!!!!!!!

Yes, and take a look around at the other areas of the forum. Problems with sensors, security systems, fuel injection, fault codes, no starts, fail to run, etc. programming, yada yada. I don't see the overall advantage...

I know our evo's have their fair share of issues, but I will take an evo over a Twinkie any day. I like simple. Oh yeah, did I mention infinitely rebuildable? YD

Did I read that this 08 had been sitting at the dealer for 2yrs??? If so, how often could it have been started, abused and put away with condensation building internally?? When mechanical items sit, they deteriorate much faster than ones that are run at operating temps on a frequent basis.. I wouldn't even be looking at it seriously, in the 1st place because of the price, but to be a dealer stock item for years, nah..... Plus I'm not a TC kinda guy... It's 9yrs old, what kind of warranty could they offer on an over priced bike?

That is a lot for and 08 and that's why it's still there. Forget about it it's still there for a reason. For 10K you can get a 2014 Superglide Custom with a 103 and pay the import taxes.... I'll bet it'll still be cheaper.....
