Watch that aluminum rivet thingy on the pad holder (sorry on my phone away from the parts diagram)... it can get bent if things are not put together exactly right even though it looks like it's correct, double check.

Also so the pin boots can get torn easily so be careful if your cleaning the old pin grease out of them. I shoved a bore brush thru mine and tore it before I realized what I did. Replacements are getting hard to find. YD

So it looks like the kit comes with a piston, clip, seal and dust cover. Does anyone replace just the seal and dust cover and leave the piston and clip? I guess I don't need to rebuild then if it's not leaking or stuck it's just a seal and dust cover. What about the o-rings on the pins or bolts those don't even come in the kit seems like those would be worn a lot. 44059-83

That's the factory rebuild kit.
Aftermarket kits don't come with the piston and are around $15.

Ordered three sets of seals. I guess I'm rebuilding.

Pistons are very clean aside from this black gunk inside the calipers. The back of them is still covered in some grease.

Those look alright aside from needing a good cleaning.

They look better than many I have had apart(mainly autos ).

Should I polish or do anything to the pistons or calipers? I need to buy some orings too.

A scotch brite pad for cleaning is what I like to use. If I have some really stuck stuff fine sandpaper will work. Say around 400 grit. Emery tape is kinda like sand paper.

The outside of piston needs to be kept REAL smooth, the inside of the caliper smoothness is a bit more forgiving.

What's up Kevin? Happy to see you still have your bike.

Just make sure there is no corrosion inside the caliper that could cause the piston to stick. J&P sells a decent rebuild kit that comes with new pistons.

Ya it's just dirty with some black stuff. No corrosion. It's not wiping off. I'll have to use sand paper or scotch brite. Just wasn't sure what to polish with. I need to get a rear rotor not sure why I didn't so ordering that now. Also I used the bolts that came with the DNA rotors and ones stripped before I hit 24 lb ft so that added an hour trying to remove it.
