Default Head Lamp Wiring to Connector Block

This all started because I am going to replace fork seals on my 92 FLSTC. After reading the manual and watching various videos it appeared to me I needed to remove all the the tins that make a Heritage Classic look so great. ( And if I didn't need to who cares, I'll learn a bit more about my bike.)

So I set about doing my lefty loosey bit until I came to the head lamp. Bottom line is I do not know how to take it off the correct way. I got the wiring free from the block inside the lamp housing. The rubber fitting does not appear to be removable and/or re-installable.

I pulled the right tank to get to the wiring but am not sure how to remove the specific wires from the white connector blocks. There are no connections between the head lamp wires and these white block. Also have the same issue with passing lamp wiring.

I could cut wires and splice back together but I am not a fan of spliced wiring.

Thanks.

Your bike has AMP connectors and the correct way to take the headlight out is take the wires out of the connector.

You can use a small paperclip to do the job but the right tools make it way easier.

Thanks THC headed out with paper clip in hand.

tgaetto, youtube is truly my friend. What broke the answer free was TCH telling me the bike has AMP connectors. Hard to search when you do not know the name of what you are searching for.

Take the smallest one you can find and straighten it out and then fold it in half.

Those pins/sockets have a small flange holding them in the connector.
You have to push the wire in, depres that tab, then pull the wire to get the pin or socket out.

Look for the seam in the pin or socket and the flange is on the direct opposite side as the seam.

I understand the hierarchy... you can also use a jewlers screw driver, I have the crimper if you need to replace the ends...

What hierarchy????

FWIW I never had any luck using a jeweler's screwdriver to get the pins out.

*** UPDATE ***

Used paper clip to get first wire free. Only took about an hour of intense cussing.

YouTube shows the wire coming right out in several vids but no luck on my end.

Inspected wire end of the one I got out. Noticed how the tabs grab on the reverse side of the hole in the block.

Took a jewelers screw driver and was able to pop the wiring out from the opposite side in a matter of minutes.

Thank you both for the help.

Glad you had better luck with the jeweler's screwdriver than I ever did.
Even with the right tools sometimes those things are a serious PITA!!!

When you put the wires back into the block make sure they click (fully seated). Otherwise they won't make a good connection and you will be taking everything apart again.
