Default Gas mileage ?

I have a 1996 fxstc, I usually average about 32mpg. I am curious if this is consistent with what others get or am I on the low side of mpg ? I have seen some people post of getting 40+ mpg. The 80 inch evo has a revolution performance big bore kit with 10:5:1 flat top wiseco piston, mikuni 42hsr carb, D&D FATCAT exhaust and head work done by scott at Hillside cycles.

Gas mileage will vary a lot depending on how hard you get on it, if you have a big windshield, and if you do sustained high speed riding.

Still, 32 sounds a little low. Normal is 36-48.

Look at your plugs etc for signs of running rich.

So what's the Cubic inch then? You probably have a heavy throttle. should be up around 38... But don't lug the motor to increase mileage... Not good for high compression motors..

On the custom with s&s and head work, stock bore I get about 45+. On the road couch, FI, mild stage one, about 40.

No windshield, no bags, just changed the plugs a few weeks ago. I think with the big bore kit my displacement is about 85 ci.

It will also depend if you are in the USA or the UK......where the gallon is larger!

I've only checked mileage a couple times since I got my '96 FLSTC with full windshield, bags, etc., and both times it's been between 30 and 35 mpg.

Most of my riding has been short runs of 5 to 20 miles, into and around town. I try not to flog it hard, but it's so fun to get on it a little bit I'm sure I'm decreasing the miles per gallon some.

I'm planning a few longer runs this summer so I'll be able to get a better idea of what kind of highway mileage it'll get.

1994 FLSTN, stock 80" motor, Mikuni HSR42 carb with "mileage kit", pipes, windshield and saddlebags. I get between 41 and 48 MPG depending on length of ride and how hard I push.

'98 FXD, stock motor, V&H slip-ons, leather saddlebags and I weigh in at 285. I'd just got myself a new carb and the guy had a 50 idle jet and a 200 main jet in it. I used it like that for a few weeks but my gas mileage was only 36 mpg at best.

Took out the 50 jet and put in a 46 jet and now my mpg's have gone back up to 46+ (2 days in a row of 100+ miles got me to 50 mpg's!).

Check if your carb needs cleaning and rebuilding, and jets being used, because 32 mpg is way too low, I don't care if you have a windshield or not.

Also, check wheel bearings and rear wheel alignment...those things can add drag to the bike and make the motor work harder and use more gas. Air cleaner clean?
