Once she's warmed up finally she purrs and runs just fine. I may still go looking for the idle adjust on the carb and keeping fiddling to a minimum try to tweak it slightly. But not until I have some visuals and have studied the S&S carb a little. First I have to find out which S&S it has.

I still find it an interesting thing that the water cooled bike is a fire up and ride bike and the air cooled bike is the one that needs all the warm up.

P.S. Currently once warmed the bike idles around 800/900 rpm.
The guys that have been working on it for years may indeed be very good. But if they're the only ones who have worked on it and it's such a bear to warm up that you're thinking of getting rid of it, I'd have somebody else take a look.

Not familiar with the S&S E carb, but it's a good carb for the EVO. Popular replacement for the CV (as is the Mikuni). There's a few guys on this forum that know the 'E' well, and they can help get it sorted for you. Curious as to what aftermarket cam was put in. I'm running a tuned CV carb with an Andrews EV27 on my 93 FLHS. Runs great, really comes alive above 2700 rpm. Idles with a nice lope at around 700-800 rpms (I need to adjust it up a bit). With a Ness Big Sucker 1 and ThunderHeader, I'm getting a combined 41 mpg.

BTW: Your FLHS is the same color combo as mine. My only regret is that when I ordered mine, I didn't get it in Mandarin Orange. Don't see many in that color which IIRC was only offered in 1993.

Thanks for the info.

The bike does the popping, back belch into the air cleaner thing until it's fully and finally warmed and it takes 3-5 miles of riding after letting it sit with a wee bit of choke for a few minutes or more. If it was doing that after fully warmed I would say it was the intermediate jet needs to go up one size. I may just opt for that anyway and see what it does.

The fellow I got the VT1100C off of took that bike down and cleaned everything out that had fluids, rebuilt and rejetted the carb to match the Cobra drag pipes. He seemed to get that part done well. He's also an aircraft tech and a former HD owner. Just got another HD recently. I may have him check it out and get his input on it.

Unfortunately, I don't know what size the intermediate is so I'd have to pull it to find out just to order the next size up. With my schedule and limited space that will have to wait. In the process of buying a house so I can't afford to put it in the shop and have them take the time to go changing and jets. Parts may be cheap, but the labor isn't.

I'll probably drop by the when I can to better explain the cold running issue and see what they have to say.

I'll let you know if/when the tour pak to rack/rest change happens. Appreciate the responses from everyone on both issues.

Sounds like your pilot circuit may be lean. I have the Mikuni flat slide on mine. She fires right up with the enrichener and warms up in minutes

Lose the tour pack and make it all Quick Release. Still have it when you want it.

I really like the look of that rest/rack. With a small to medium leather tail bag on the rack I think that would serve us well for two up and for me soloing and commuting.

Btw, dropped the bike off Saturday. They'll fire it up and take a look on Tuesday (Closed Sun-Mon). Talking to the owner when I described it he said it sounded like something in the carb blocking the jets, like some junk that broke loose in the lines or got past the sieve that they call a filter over the petcock. Either way, they are going to figure it out.
