I'm goint to replace the rigid oil lines that goes from the oil pump to the oil filter bracket (I will replace it too) in my 97 Road King. After replacing the engine in the bike (new S&S engine), I used the same rigid lines and oil filter bracket that were in the engine before but, as they have some rust, I've decided to replace them. This is what I have bought:
I think that I know how to do this job and I think that I have what I need to do it but my question is about how much oil is going to fall to the floor when I remove the lines from the oil pump.
I really don't know how much oil will drop at the removal of these tubes so, if someone can indicate it to me, it would be very helpful. Is it supposed that all the oil that is inside the engine is going to fall from there or just the oil that is inside those tubes? How much oil will be that?
Excuse me for my English, as I'm Spanish and I know that it's not as good as I would like.
Finally, I did the oil tubes replacement yesterday and I would like to share that just a few quantity of oil drop from the oil pump and, of course, the oil in the oil filter and lines.
I had to remove the front exhaust, and unbolt the right platform to have access and I think that this job should be easier to do this with a jack, but as it's not necessary, I didn't use one.
The best procedure to do this is to install the tubes in the oil filter bracket with it out of the engine and then tighten the tubes so they be in place.
After, install the oil filter bracket in its place and tight the two bolts that hold it in place. Attach the oil tube that goes to the oil pump and test that this line is firmly installed.
Finally, using the hose clamp, put the return tube into the rubber line. Run the bike and test for leaks.
