Another job on my ever growing list to replace the intake gaskets. Are the stockers from the motor company good enough replacements? What is everybody using?
I did the ones on mine at about 25k miles, just because CVP included a set with the carb rebuild kit. AFAIK, the ones I replaced were the originals, and they were probably just fine, but far be it from me to leave something alone!!
The reason that I am changing them is I had an Indy replace a head gasket a couple of years ago. The valvetrain has been noisy ever since. I took the tappet screen out to check it and it was filled with sludge.
I'm thinking he was sanding bodywork next to my bike with the motor opened up and the dust got inside. I have changed the oil a couple times and it is good now, the oil stays clean and the tappet screen stays clean also.
I've got about 60k on her and figure is be best to swap out the lifters and one of the adjustable push rods has a stripped spot in it. While I'm in there with I'm going back to stock push rods with my EV 27.
I am going to replace the intake manifold gaskets while its all apart, for piece of mind.

If your bike is FI and its never been changed, spring for a new Air Intake Temp sensor while you're at it. You have to pull the manifold to change that sensor if it ever goes out. It's about $25 and will take you all of 60 seconds to change while the manifold is off.
