I have an 85 Electra glide that I am restoring. I'm am looking for an outer fairing to put on it, But Havent been able to find anything. What year Electra glide fairings and compatible with an 85? All I have now is a bolt on aftermarket windshield that doesn't look very nice. Any tips or advice?

 

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. You can check the fairing and part numbers which your bike originally had (and a whole lot more) on-line here. In essence your bike had a shovel batwing, just as I have retrofitted to my 1990 Glide. Finding one of them is rather like looking for a needle in a haystack - you may get lucky, as I did, although that was many years ago.

Any shovel batwing will probably work, however I suspect you will need the later spec mounting brackets, to suit your (and mine) instrument panel. I made my own brackets, to fit mine. Once the Evo FLHS was introduced in 1987 the shovel batwing was discontinued, except as a factory aftermarket accessory. It was expensive and pretty rare, even when that model of bike was new.

There are modern reproduction batwings, made for modern bikes like the Road Kings, which may fit, which will also take an audio system. It is probably worth calling into the Touring forum to find more details of brands etc.
