Default Speedo cable

Oh, the joy of having an EVO with a mechanical speedo. On a run the speedo started acting strange then quit. Today I pulled it out along with the cable. Everything looked OK until I looked closely at the point where the cable enters the speedo and saw a piece of the inner inside. I tried for an hour to get it out to no avail. I reinstalled the original speedo that has a dead odometer but the speed works. These things are hard to find so I'm looking for someone who may have a tip for extracting the broken tip.

If you could post a picture of what you are dealing with that might help.

I had a 98 ultra that did the same thing.Mine broke at the wheel so it was a little easier to get out.I used a two small flat head screw drivers with a dab of grease on them and slowly worked it out,P.I.T.A. My biggest problem was matching a new one, dealer could not find the right one.Spent an hour looking in all there books.Ended up ordering one thru drag specialties.First time i ever saw or heard of a dealer ordering thru an after market supplier.

You could try drilling it out. You know, with one of those micro bits in your drill kit that you never use. I think the speedo end is plastic.

Mine was aluminum and the only thing holding it in was grease

I have gotten a couple out by blowing air from a compressor beside the sleeve that the cable goes into.

Some old sticky grease can cause them to seem stuck more than they really are.
