what is the rubber hose from the oil pan up to the engine
Which one?
There are 3.
Without being able to see which one you are talking about I'm gonna guess you are talking about the supply line that delivers oil from the tank to the oil pump.

The one on the bottom of the pan to pump is the oil feed line to the pump.
The two on top, one is a return from the filter to the tank and the other is a vent or called "breather hose" per the factory manual for my 1994 on page 3-6. YD
