Very wise! I had mine rebuilt after a few years with a stroker kit, also ported heads, cam etc. Ran great, but then I got hungry for a little more and now have an S&S 107". A 124" with low compression sounds very appealing....

Not to get another oil thread going !!! But don't know what you use, that mileage should be minimum of straight 50 or even 60(valvoline) race or conventional oil is my favorite.

This could be the source of your oil usage...how did they fix the breather gear bore?

when i had lifters put in 4-5 years ago the mechanic said the bore looked good and that's what i was told 30 tears ago. if there was a steel breather in it the cases may have been destroyed.

There's a reason the MoCo used a plastic breather gear. If something's going to get destroyed, better a $10 gear than a set of cases.

I went back into my cam chest to put new torrington (and new S&s lifters) I debated on putting my plastic breather back in, I put the steel gear back in. Isn't there pro n con to both the steel and the plastic??

I would rather have metal chips get imbedded in the plastic gear than the case. As far as normal wear, I ran a stock plastic breather gear 100,000 miles with no issues.

i rechecked the compression. the first stroke was about 90, 2 or 3 strokes later it was at 130....both cylinders. what's the important number? the first stroke or the 3rd stroke number? i was under the impression the first stroke was the one to be concerned about.
