Default push rod swap question

I am changing out the lifters and push rods on my ’97 flht. It currently has adjustable push rods, and I am replacing with factory non-adjustable push rods. To take the old push rods out, can I just adjust them slack and take them out, or do I need to have the motor at TDC of the compression stroke?

Also to put the new lifters and push rods in, is it mandatory to have the piston at TDC of the compression stroke, or can I just drop them in and install the rockers?

It depends on whether or not they are ez-install pushrods.

You will need to have the piston in jug that you are working on (do them one at a time) at TDC or the rocker boxes won't seat correctly.

When installing solid pushrods, follow the service manual religiously...

If the lifters are new and unused you won't need to follow the bleed-down procedure as they are not inflated yet.

Bike will sound like a bag of nails for up to ten miles as the lifters inflate.

Must still be on TDC compression though including while removing old adjustables.
