Why is the combustion chamber power coated?

I have no clue either... However while you have them off I would get a set of beehive springs installed... It will open the door to more cam options.....

575 lift springs, know a 580 cam will work. The valve seals are known to be junk in them also, I installed Vitons when I had a set of SE's

Powder coated chambers, don't know what HD was thinking either?

New stock Evo heads are the same way, the last couple sets I've seen have been that way. My guess would be the raw head was powder coated before the machining process.

With my production engineer's hat on I guess the castings were powder coated before final machining. Simpler and cheaper than masking the machined surfaces off prior to coating. I suspect the powder coating will get scorched off pdq once the engine is started and nobody will ever know it was there!
