Default windshield

currently have a 5 hole, can a 3 hole windshield be installed and just use like a button screw on the other 2 holes, or will the 3 hole not align up properly ?

A nice sharp drill bit can turn a 3 hole into a 5 hole very easily.

I can tell you a 5 hole windshield will fit a 3 hole fairing. Like THC said it can be drilled to fit, start with a sharp smaller bit and work your way up slowly using a slower speed. Also wrap some tape about 3/8" from the tip so the bit only goes through the windshield and doesn't go too far through and cause a crack.

I only ever use a hand-turned drill when drilling plastic, just as I only use a hand-powered saw when cutting it, no power tools. The risk is of a rapid build-up of heat melting the plastic, which grabs the tool and magnifies the risk of cracking/splitting. Slowly-slowly catchy monkey.....

I have better experience using a wood drill type, rather than metal drill. Then try and not go all the way thru, but drill from both sides.

It's like cutting holes in glass, if you try and push thru, you'll pop the other side out and damage it.

You can buy special bits just for Plexiglass, Lexan, etc. They are not expensive but I'd say feel is more important. The hole also needs to be slightly larger than the bolt to allow for expansion.

This type. 'Plas Drills' are different, I've never used one.
