Fitting later wheel, and adapting speedo hopefully, wondering if it can be machined to a different thickness to act as spacer.
That may not work as I haven't made all my measurements yet.
Replace it, if you enlarge it you take the chance of making it to thin an it might explode. Theres a small locking screw that holds the cable on the bottom of the drive.
If you're upgrading to a 1" axle, consider slimming the axle where it goes through the speedo drive, that's what some of us have done. Both original and later axles have the same diameter threaded portion, despite the differences in OD through the wheel. Buy a new speedo drive as well!
If so then you can do that with an angle grinder without taking the drive apart.
Personally I would suggest you just buy one with the size spacer you want on it instead.
Yes That's pretty much what I'm planning on doing, different wheel, mine should be easier I think.
So you milled the inside length of the speedo drive assembled then?
And it still worked well, didn't fill with swarf and destroy itself?
I figure to mill down drive so it fits against the wheel properly.
If the length ( bearings spacers etc)between fork legs is then too short, I'll make a spacer between drive and fork leg.
I have the stock spacer for right side to center things correctly, so only have to worry about the left side unlike your mod. so it should be simpler I think.
I hope.
