Default Softail axle covers?

None of my searches brought back anything relevant about this. I need a lesson. Anyway, I'm trying to remove my rear tire on my 1998 Softail Custom and it has those chrome covers over the axle. Is there an allen screw on the bottom that I need to loosen? Is that an allen screw and what size? I'm frustrated that I can't even get the first step done. Thanks

Should be 3 screws. 2 in front and one on the rear of the cover. Believe they are 1/8" Allen.

Mine must be different. There is one hole on the bottom. It is recessed up so I can't see it very well. I can't tell what it is.

Take a picture and enlarged it.. then you'll be able to see it. Might need a flashlight to brighten it up a bit...

Well, it turns out I was trying to remove the set screws that had vibrated out. I knew they were recessed and were supposed to be there so I kept looking way up in, but they were gone. Kind of funny and sad. After the set screws you have to turn the adjuster bolts forward so they will pull off. Of course, the one on the brake side didn't have enough room so that wasn't fun either. Once the new tire is mounted, I will see how much fun I have putting it back on. Those customs have a lot of chrome crap that gets in the way. Thanks to all.

My advice is to take those useless “toilet seat caps” and throw them in the nearest dumpster. I hate them and other useless pieces of add-on crap.
